The New York Mets nearly traded Pete Alonso to the Milwaukee Brewers prior to the Aug. 1 deadline, according to a report.

Following the report, Alonso expressed his feelings about the organization.

The St. Louis Cardinals plan to add three starting pitchers to their roster this offseason, says president of baseball operations John Mozeliak.

The Cardinals' rotation ranks 23rd with a 4.73 ERA this year.

They also traded Jordan Montgomery and Jack Flaherty last month, while Adam Wainwright will retire after the season.

The Chicago White Sox have acquired Tyler Naquin from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for cash considerations.

He will head to the White Sox's Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte.

Naquin, 32, was eligible to be traded by virtue of the fact that he hasn't been on a 40-man roster or Major League injured list at any point this season.

 It turned on a comeback. Or perhaps a game-saving catch in the ninth inning. Or a 17-run outburst. The Chicago Cubs were ready to subtract from their team this trade deadline, but a sudden win streak changed the trajectory of their season.

"There was a period where it looked like we were going to be sellers," Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said Tuesday evening. "We were seven games under .500, playing the Nationals and down 3-0, about to go eight under, and we ended up scoring 17 that night and sort of didn't look back for a while. That wasn't very long ago."

Tigers ace Eduardo Rodriguez used his no-trade clause to veto a deal Tuesday and remain with Detroit, general manager Scott Harris said.

Harris confirmed the team had an agreement on a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers and also confirmed that Rodriguez exercised his no-trade clause before Tuesday's deadline, although he declined to say if Rodriguez specifically blocked the deal with L.A.

The Houston Astros have agreed to acquire Justin Verlander from the New York Mets.

Verlander left the Astros last December to join the Mets on a two-year, $86.7 million deal.

In 16 starts this season, Verlander has a 3.15 ERA.

Any questions about whether the Padres would add at the Trade Deadline appear to have been answered, as San Diego has agreed to a trade for veteran left-hander Rich Hill and first baseman Ji Man Choi from the Pirates, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Tuesday.

The teams have not confirmed the trade.

The Braves are set to acquire veteran lefty reliever Brad Hand from the Rockies in exchange for Double-A right-handed reliever Alec Barger, a source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Tuesday. Neither club has confirmed the deal.

Hand, 33, is capable of big strikeout totals but must watch the walks.
